Daxter is a spin-off of the Jak and Daxter series, set between Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and Jak II. The story follows Daxter, the wisecracking ottsel (half-otter, half-weasel), on a solo adventure to rescue his best friend Jak, who has been imprisoned by the evil Baron Praxis.

After Jak’s capture, Daxter ends up working as a pest exterminator in Haven City, using his new job as a cover while he searches for clues and gains access to the heavily guarded city areas. Along the way, he battles metal bugs, takes on odd jobs, and uses a variety of bug-spraying gadgets and platforming skills.

The game is full of comedic moments, dream sequences that parody other games and movies, and lighthearted action. Despite its humor, the stakes are real—Daxter must brave dangerous territories and outsmart the Baron’s forces to find Jak and help spark the resistance movement that eventually leads into Jak II.

In the end, Daxter manages to infiltrate the prison and rescues Jak, setting the stage for the next chapter in the series.
